Ponies and Planks Skijoring - Know Before You Go

As the first annual (hopefully?) Ponies and Planks Skijoring Fundraiser fast approaches, we asked one of the organizers, Simone Bourassa for some tips on how to make the most out of this great afternoon in Fernie!

First of all "and most importantly," she suggests having a really fun time! Knowing the following will help to make that happen:

- Location is the same as the Lion's Club Demo Derby (Railway Ave off 13th Street, just behind TJ's Autobody)
- Walking is encouraged! Start your day with a nice stroll through town to avoid looking for limited parking.
- Gates open at 11am, and there is no assigned seating!
- There will be limited tickets at the gate for $25
- Dress in your skijoring finest! Furs, Canadian tuxedo, retro ski gear, cowboy style... show them what you've got, Fernie! There are prizes for first, second and third best dressed in the crowd!
- Bring cash - there is no ATM on site and there will be a concession, food truck, fresh coffee and non alcoholic beverage
- There will also be merch such as Ponies and Planks T-Shirts and Sweaters!
- The action begins at 11:30am, with teams of two (one horse rider and one skier or snowboarder) racing through a course!
- Dress warm! Layers are recommending. The morning will be chilly but it should warm up throughout the afternoon. This event is entirely outdoors.
- Consider bringing a chair to sit on as there are limited bleachers.
- Please leave your dog at home. We love dogs, but this is not the event for them.
- No outside alcohol is permitted.
- Please do not drink and drive. If necessary, you can leave your vehicle at the grounds overnight.

This team of volunteers has been working hard and is excited to host this amazing community event! When you see a volunteer or one of the organizers, take the time to say thank you! It takes a lot of time and effort to make these things happen.

See you Saturday! Now, what to wear....
