Charné Baird Photography

I’m Charné [shar-NAE], a commercial photographer specializing in food, beverage, product, and stop motion photography with over 13 years of experience. I craft exceptional imagery that helps businesses in the food and beverage industry tell their unique brand stories and stand out in today’s competitive market.

I have always been creative and detail-oriented, but photography was never on my radar. Throughout school, I loved all the creative classes, primarily pottery. Even though I didn’t think twice about photography, it has always been part of my life. I remember taking pictures with my family’s film camera back in South Africa and saving up to purchase my first digital camera in high school. I enjoyed capturing moments, nature, and my travels.

After completing the Professional Photography Diploma program at Langara College, I combined it with my culinary arts background and started my journey as a food and beverage photographer. Specializing in this niche and my unique blend of culinary and photography education has given a distinctive perspective to my work. It has been a fulfilling journey marked by continual growth. I have experienced significant changes in my approach and technique and expect it will forever evolve and change. While constantly learning, I have honed my skills, from natural light to artificial lighting, editing, stop motion, keeping up with industry changes, and so much more.

Running my photography business with a name that most people can’t pronounce has been an interesting journey. I bring creativity and attention to detail to every photoshoot, which has shaped my onboarding, pre-production, and post-production processes. Some people believe that once they hire me, all I have to do is show up and take the photo, run it through some editing presets and just like that, done. However, my approach is very different. Clients come to me to help elevate their brand, captivate their audience, and drive results. I collaborate with and involve my clients as much as possible, showing them what their vision looks like before we shoot and delivering exceptional imagery. You can read more about my process on my website. It’s incredible looking back at the journey, the first few years of business and where I am today. Evolving and making changes have kept me going all these years.

Moving to Fernie five years ago marked a new chapter in my journey. I was able to continue working with local businesses despite the challenges of the pandemic. Specializing in food
and beverage photography has allowed me to focus my skill set and utilize my expertise. As my services evolve, I have added product, stop motion and ship and shoot to the list. It has allowed me to work with more clients both locally and remotely.

As I look forward, I am thrilled to continue my photographic journey by collaborating with local businesses in Fernie and the Elk Valley and expanding my reach. Living in Fernie has helped me maintain a healthy work-life balance while I continue to explore the great outdoors. I am committed to pushing the boundaries of my creativity while delivering exceptional results for my clients and staying true to my artistic self.
