TransRockies 10 Year Anniversary with 3 Days in Fernie!

The TransRockies has always either ended or begun in Fernie, and this year for its tenth anniversary it will begin in Fernie... for three days! The big addition? Island Lake Lodge.
Lucky TR3 bikers will enjoy this year's course, having the ability to remain in Fernie each night and enjoy our epic singletrack. Pat Gilmar is making these stages memorable, choosing some of Fernie's best trails and viewpoints. And he should know, being a key figure in Fernie's trail building community and the Fernie Trails Alliance.
With days one and two starting and finishing in Fernie's beautiful downtown, the TransRockies will also be more exicitng for viewers, cheering on the racers on their way out and as they finish. Day three racers will once again start in downtown Fernie, but Pat has something else in store for them. Enjoying trails that are both challenging and well-built, riders will cross Proctor and Fernie Mountains on their way to Island Lake Lodge where they will finish with one of the area's most spectacular views of the LIzard Range. While this will be one of the longest stages of this year's TransRockies, it will also have one of the most rewarding finishes!
Day four begins at North Fork Recreation Area, marking the beginning of the TR4, a new category this year, taking riders through the Kananaskis Rockies all the way to Canmore, Alberta. TransRockies president, Aaron McConnell, is excited about this new route and the opportunities it will provide those involved, "We're now able to offer seven straight days of riding world class trail systems along with the minimum number of transfers for our riders." I'm sure all racers are excited as well!
Full details and specifics on each stage will be announced May1, 2011. Details are already available on their site - www.transrockies.com.
