Polar Peek Books Celebrates 20 Years in Fernie, BC

On Saturday October 19, 2013 owner Patty Reedyk invites the community to Polar Peek Books and Treasures to celebrate its 20th anniversary in Fernie. Patty was the first employee when locals Anne Anderson ad Laura Nelson opened the store in 1993, and has been sole owner/operator over the last five years.

“This anniversary is about celebrating community,” says Patty. “This place wouldn't be what it is today without the support of my wonderful employees, past and present, the public who shop here and the authors who have held literary events here.”

The celebration runs from noon to 4pm at Polar Peek, and Patty has sent invites to past owners, staff and authors for an informal afternoon of visiting, celebrating and reminiscing. Kids can enjoy a scavenger hunt, while adults visit with authors, enter the many draws for great prizes and enjoy a piece of celebratory cake! A sale on select items in the shop will also be part of the day.

Polar Peek Books and Treasures has been a cornerstone in the community, supporting literary events at the Fernie Heritage Library, the Sparwood Library, and the Fernie Writers' Conference. The shop supports authors and has hosted many reading events and book launches over the years, hosts a monthly book club and supports local charities whenever possible. The store offers a great selection of local hiking and biking trail maps and guide books, local history books, a large selection of local and Canadian authors, original art and is renowned for its selection of award winning children’s books and toys.

Fernie's independent and locally owned book store celebrates 20 years this October!
