It's time to ring in the New Year and you're in Fernie, BC for the festivities. Lucky you! After exploring the beautiful snow covered mountains or visiting the numerous boutique shops, restaurants and cafes, you and your friends or family might be looking for options when it comes to celebrating the beginning of 2014. Here is a quick look at what's on offer in town and at the hill!
At the Hill - Fernie Alpine Resort
Griz Kidz Family New Year's Party
From 6-9pm Fernie Alpine Resort is hosting a variety of kids activities in the base area including arts and crafts in the daycare, a family scavenger hunt and photo booth in the back room of the Slopeside Cafe, and games out on the snow beside the Mighty Moose including snow graffiti, glow toss game and doughnut races. All the activities are free of charge.
The night culminates at 9pm with an early countdown and fireworks display!
New Year's Eve Dinner and Party at Lizard Creek Lodge
The restaurant at Lizard Creek Lodge at the bottom of the Elk Chair is offering two options this New Year's Eve.
Option 1 - Enjoy a four course dinner complete with a glass of champagne before you head out to party. Dinner reservations are from 6-8pm, and the cost is $88 per person.
Option 2 - this option also includes a four course dinner with glass of champagne but then stay after dinner for the dance and party where you can ring in 2014! Dinner reservations are from 8:15-10pm with the dance starting at 10pm! Cost is $100 per person.

Griz Bar New Year's Eve Party
Unfortunately this is already sold out! For those going, have a blast! And those who missed out, get on it early next year!
Dance the night away with tunes provided by Fernie New Year's Eve favorites the Todd Sellecks and enjoy a New Year's Eve countdown and toast at midnight. This is an 19+ party and tickets are required.
Loaf Bakery and Cafe
Loaf Bakery in downtown Fernie is offering a set menu and live music this January 31. Price is $60 per head and consists of three courses, with music provided by Ben Wilkinson. The first seating at 6pm is fully booked but bookings are still available for after 8:30pm. Call 250-423-7702 to reserve your space!
Infinitea is throwing a 'Top Hats and Tiaras' party - come dressed in your fanciest head-ware. This event includes complimentary appies and Champagne along with live music by DJ Riley J playing Jazz/Swing/Funk tunes. The doors open at 7pm and Infinitea will be open until 2am. The cost is $30 and capacity is 40!
With seatings at 6 ($75) and 8:30pm ($90 - includes party), the Livery Restaurant invites you to celebrate the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2014 offering the following four-course menu:
Seafood crudo - cold smoked scallop and oysters with creme fraiche and caviar, pickled cucumber salad
Creamy tomato and fennel bisque, tomato concasse , sweet basil
Braised Elk Osso Bucco, parsnip and potato puree, roasted root vegetables, cinnamon jus, gremolata
OR Pan Seared Organic Salmon- wild mushroom duxelle, roasted fingerling potatoes, asparagus, blood orange beurre blanc
Dark chocolate terrine, candied nuts and honeycomb
OR Pomegranate sabayon tart, fresh fruit salsa

In one of Fernie's oldest bars, the Fernie Hotel pub is hosting its annual New Year's Eve party with DJ Jim Paul and champagne at midnight. Cost is $15, tickets are available in advance so don't miss out on this popular locale.
The Royal is hosting a Great Gatsby New Year's Eve party, including Fernie favourite DJs, Laughin Louie, Jenn Frost, Charlie the Messenger, Sonny Chiba and Mertz. Doors open at 8pm, first come first in. Tickets are not available in advance so get there on time to get in.
This party is complete with snacks just after midnight, along with something bubble to ring in the New Year. Also, they are open until 4am so make sure to bring some comfortable dancing shoes and a lot of energy.
The Parkplace Pub
Another classic Fernie venue, the Parkplace Pub is celebrating the New Year with DJ Fedski and Guests. The evening includes midnight bubbles and party favours, and tickets are available in advance for $30 or $35 at the door. This even always sells out, so getting your tickets early is probably a good idea.
If you are keen to dance your way into 2014, this is definitely a good option with DJ Flatspin, Mister Moffat and Straus! Covering all genres any party could need, these boys are known for having the dance floor packed. Tickets are available at Commit Snow and Skate and the Central for $35, doors open at 9pm.
Additional venues to consider are the Northern and Brickhouse, both known for a great time and live music, while the Brickhouse is a little more chill the Northern is upbeat and busy.
