I am openly not a "road" biker and will do whatever I can to avoid training on roads... but this spring is making it difficult, and there is only so much driving a person can do. Got any secret routes you want to share? I'll even try out a road ride as long as it's new!

singletrack status

Went on a recon mission with Shopland last night. Bear Chutes is good to ride pretty high, great early season lungbuster! Ridgemont Road can be ridden just below the top of Eric's Trail (one big patch of snow to walk between the top of Broken Hip to the top of What's Up Doc). Scary Trail, Cemetery Bypass, and What's Up Doc all good!

Anyone have news on Dem Bones or Swine? River Road still very covered so couldn't try Roots.

Another recon mission - this

Another recon mission - this time Dem Bones (patchy, but managed to get up first big climb), Swine Flue (Mad Cow to the opening where you turn left is clear, but very mush), Stumpy (Clear, but wet when nearing Ridgemont) and Sidewider off of What's Up Doc (Very patchy still, but clear in exposed areas - only went up first major climb).

Good news! The amazing Mitchy

Good news! The amazing Mitchy has shoveled off Sidewinder so it is now 100% clear! Dem Bones is clear until before you enter the trees under the powerline. Top part of Deadfall off Ridgemont Road is clear. Roots up to where the turn off to Hyper as well. Yippee! Riding in town far outweighs South Country, although rode the Rim Trail for the first time yesterday and loved it.

New Trails Ready to Ride!

Discovered that Kids Stuff, R-Trail and Oh Dear are good to go! Hyper to the top, Castle Rocks and South Castle. Dem Bones to the Powerline. Riding today felt like Christmas morning! Any others? Please let us know :)

So... everything is looking

So... everything is looking pretty good here in Fernie. Trails with wet, muddy sections include Coal Discovery, R-Trail, Phat Bastard, Top part of Brokeback/bottom section of Slunt, Gorby, Project-9 (I hear), and I'm sure Old Goat and others in that direction (haven't been there yet). The Trails Alliance has been hard at work - Hyper Extension is riding really nicely, the bottom of Sidewinder is all fixed up, Swine Flu has been re-routed at the end, the original climb up Mad Cow has new switch backs, and that's just the beginning. Trees have been cleared off trails and the couple of days of sunshine worked their magic - happy biking!
