100th Anniversary of Canada’s First National Internment Operations
Time:
11:00am

Fernie will be participating in a “wave” of plaque unveilings from coast to coast. This is a call for attention to the injustice experienced by Ukranians and other Europeans during the Great War (between 1914 and 1920).The Fernie/Morrissey Internment Camp was one of 24 such camps set up in Canada during the First World War.

A plaque unveiling will be held at 11 a.m. at Dogwood Park/Leroux Ponds. Turn right at the bottom of the hill on 4th Avenue and proceed to the large memorial rock for the Fernie/Morrissey Internment Camp or follow the signs to Dogwood Park, located at 4th Street and 6th Avenue. Join to witness the unveiling; “Be there to remember and learn”.
