Fernie BC Quality and Livability

Fernie Liveability Report 2010, prepared for the City of Fernie by Halcrow Consulting Inc is now available for public perusal.

Involvement of the community, City staff, and the Official Community Plan Implementation Committee, alongside support of the BC Healthy Communities program, allowed this pivotal document to be produced.

The report is based upon the Quality of Life Index, made up of indicators most valued by the Fernie community including demographics, economic development, housing, accessibility and transport, learning and wellness, natural environment, recreation, and a sense of community and identity. Community engagement involved two workshops with representatives of the community and the OCP Implementation committee, and a community survey,

Indicators are colour coded, and the issues within each indicator are given a "green" - generally performing well, "yellow" - some concerns about trends or performance, or "red" - significant concerns about performance and/or trends. For example, within Demographics (colour coded grey), Population Stability was given a "red".

It's very interesting, easy to read and will provide residents of Fernie and different organizations a reliable reference on Fernie's current situation, and as report updates are conducted in years to come, on Fernie's progress. It will also act as a tool for the City to monitor its progress in implementing its Official Community Plan Vision.
