Riding Around Fernie

We returned from El Salvador well rested, thoroughly beaten by large, aggressive waves, and ready to ride some singletrack... only to discover there was none. So to the south country we went, riding in the Wigwam at Dorr Road and the lovely Rim Trail at last!

Throughout the week I continued to ride, exploring the limits of my new ride and testing the snow line.

Trails continued to clear each day, little by little. Fernie trail builder Mitchy got out the shovel and cleared the remaining snow on Sidewinder. Mad Cow was clear, with a new section courtesy of Mitchy and Matt. Then we caught wind of Uprooted, and had to explore. A new addition by Mitchy last year, this downhill off Roots just metres to your left as you begin ascending Hyperventilation is a blast! We connected it with Roots Extension, also in good shape but in need of some de-logging... must start carrying hand saw again!

Over the long weekend we managed to bike every trail available, some twice or three times, and discovered Eric's Trail is also good to go, as well as Dead Fall to the Four Corners and Broken Derailleur. Ryland and crew went to shovel the remaining snow off Swine Flu, we'll let you know when it's good to go. And Dem Bones is clear to the flats (not quite to the powerline).

If you have any news of trails clear of snow and in good riding condition, let us know! Remember to ride through puddles if you come across them, ride and don't slide, and if it's too wet just take the day off :) Don't miss the Fernie Mountain Bike Club's Spring Bike Blitz this coming weekend, May 28 at the Elk's Hall. Check the calendar for more details. And for good reads, visit Anna Goodman's blog as she trains in Calgary for the 2012 ski season.

Swine flu

Trail is good to go! Boys did a great job shovelling out just the few spots that were still snowy. Hats off boys. Lost my blue lever off my rear shock on the trail, so was stuck in full lock out mode for the downhill until guy-carrying-foot long-adjustable-wrench came by and saved the day....i love him! ;) Extension at the bottom is a much sweeter way to head out and roll on home. Might head up in the am to look for my part...fb if you wanna ride!! BTW I love my old friend...my bike!

Thanks Jacq, thinking of

Thanks Jacq, thinking of heading up there this afternoon! Love keeners shoveling trails, they are the best. And yes, lucky for you there was a guy with a foot long wrench on the trail? Hilarious.
