Resolution - Stop Making Assumptions! (Assume: Making an $%# out of U and ME!)
January is typically assumed as being a slower month in Fernie, a little breather after the hustle and bustle of the holidays. But after this week I will no longer believe this to be true...and I will no longer make assumptions.
It all started with Evolution (a.k.a. the gym) on Tuesday. I had intended on going over lunch but got side tracked and decided to go after work as, "Oh, it shouldn't be too busy..." Fast forward to me running up the step mill (the most dreaded and avoided piece of exercise equipment at the gym) as it was the only available choice. Supposedly my red and sweaty face inspired a few peeps to work that much harder while watching from above (another bonus to the step mill is its location). Glad I could help out.
Thursday night a crew decided to hit up Yamagoya for some sushi and then head to the Brickhouse for Jam Night. As I'm on a wee budget I joined in on the festivities around 8:30pm, assuming the dinner portion of the evening would be coming to a conclusion. Wrong! All of the tables were full and the ladies had been sipping on cocktails at the bar since 7pm. I'm sure you can imagine the scene, the beginning of a truly great Fernie night.
Soon it was 10:30pm, and assuming I could beat the Jam Night crowd I decided to go ahead to ensure we had a table. Foiled again, the place was packed and I was resigned to situate myself in the locale of the the dish pit. The music, company and lovely servers quickly made up for it and soon enough we elbowed our way onto a couple of bar stools.
The next morning, suffering from a wee headache I diligently persuaded my business partner into picking me up by offering to take her for lunch. Loaf it is! Surely it won't be busy...why oh why was I surprised? The place was packed and smelled of deliciousness. (Note to readers: do not go to Loaf hungover! You will most definitely want and order every item on the menu, and leave with bags of bread.)
Lesson learned, assumptions are out in 2010. I'm going to try my new approach to going out this weekend at picnic restaurant & social. That's assuming this new resolution won't conflict with my budget resolution...
