Five Years Old

Last night Vanessa, her two daughters Sarah and Emily, Rich and I went to Rip N Richards for Sarah's 7th birthday. We had finished the Fernie Fix - Winter Guide just hours beforehand, and were ready for a little celebration.

At dinner I mentioned to Vanessa how much Sarah has changed since I've known her. "Since she was 3 or 4," she said. I reminded her that I've known Sarah since she was one and a half years old! We worked together the summer of 2006 at Savage Marketing, and in November we decided to go into business together - just like that. A few weeks later on December 1st, the first issue of the Fernie Fix hit the stands.

We've been through a lot, Vanessa and I (and our families!). Back then we worked out of my garage in Parkland Terrace, so meetings and interviews tended to take place at Freshies. As did many writing and editing sessions. (The garage wasn't heated). On our first anniversary, we bought a commercial/residential building for Vanessa and the girls to live in, and for Claris Media to operate out of, which is where we've been ever since.

Coming up on our five year anniversary, Vanessa and I are brainstorming on how to mark this special occasion. Of course we will make the December 1, 2012 issue, our five year anniversary edition, a special one, but also want to celebrate and show our appreciation to the community.
