City of Fernie – Miners Walk Call to the Community
The Miners Walk Exhibit is in progress with installation due by the end of August. With just twenty five thousand dollars short of its goal the steering committee is calling out to businesses, service clubs, associations and individuals to encourage community involvement.
The exhibit is intricate, including individual sculptures forming an optical illusion of a miner, banners and signs sharing the story of coal in the Elk Valley, as well as a curved pathway made up of bricks with individuals’ names as a memorial and personal thank you. Fernie has a very rich history, and the Miners Walk provides an opportunity for community members to commemorate their family’s heritage in coal mining. For a minimum donation of $50, your friend, co-worker, parent, grandparent, sibling, or child’s name will be a part of this artistic and historical exhibit that will soon become an integral part of the Historic Downtown of Fernie.
Everyone who lives in the valley is touched by mining in some form. The brick program allows individuals to be honored and remembered in a lasting way. . Cheques are to be made out to the "City of Fernie" re- Miners Walk brick program. Please have your name and address as well as the name of the person you wish to have on the brick in an envelope along with the cheque or cash which can be taken to any committee member or dropped off at the Fernie Museum downtown. In addition to corrective and functional exercise, Kinesis now includes group flexibility classes and one-on-one stretch therapy. Flexibility plays an integral part in our physical and mental well being and is fundamental to fluid and efficient movement. Stretching allows us to release muscular tension, combat and manage injury, and decrease common aches and pains associated with stress or too much work at the computer!
This month Kinesis is launching its Buddy Training Program. With the guidance and supervision of an exercise professional, services can be utilized at an affordable rate. Rather than working one-on-one with each client, your coach works with two or three people at a time. Each client still receives sufficient attention and an exercise program is designed specifically to your unique needs and goals. For more information visit www.kinesislifestyle.com

Wildsight Elk Valley has opened an office in Fernie. Sharon Switzer, Wildsight Elk Valley president, says having a central location will help the team focus on a growing roster of programs and projects.
The office will be a central hub for the Elk River Alliance, Advocates for Local Living, Community Eco-Garden, Bear Aware, Flathead Wild, Citizens Concerned About Coalbed Methane and Climate Solutions.
"With so much going on, the time is right to put it all together under one roof," Switzer said. She invites everyone to drop by the office, at 891 2nd Avenue. "Come in for a freshly brewed organic coffee, cool Springside water or some hot and fresh organic popcorn," she said. "You’re always welcome to sit down in our Wild Lounge and read the latest Wild Times while taking in the amazing Flathead RAVE Photo Exhibit."
"This space will help bring the community together in dynamic ways to rally for responsible environmental stewardship," Switzer added. "We look forward to seeing you walk through the doors!"
