July Featured Events
If four pages of festival fun hasn’t tempted you out of Fernie, there’s plenty going on around here to keep you occupied. The warmer weather offers plenty of options for getting outdoors, from the Mountain Market on Sundays in Rotary Park to floating on the Elk, or try one of these options:
Canada Day
The City of Fernie invites you to join them in celebrating Canada Day at the Fernie Secondary School Track on July 1. The fun starts at 1pm with the Mountain Market. The cake cutting ceremony will take place at 1.30pm followed by non-stop music, bouncy houses, pet and bike parades, face painting and crafts, baby races and sandbox. Shade tents, concessions and beverage tent will all be available. Wear your favourite red outfit and join your community in celebrating our national day.
Fishing
The Elk River Guiding Company is offering ‘Chix with Stix’ for the second year. Exclusively for women, this weekly club offers you a chance to join a group of like minded female anglers, whether you are just starting out or have been on the river for years. Fernie Writer’s Conference
Now in its fourth year, the conference is a celebration of writers and writing throughout the week of July 18-25. Courses, readings, panel discussions and performances form an educational experience for writers and readers alike. Attendees this year will learn from talented and renowned writers such as Governor General’s Award winner Robert Kroetsch and Governor General’s Award Nominee Sid Marty. Space is still available for some courses and many of the readings and performances are open to the public, with a festival atmosphere planned for the closing weekend. Details are available on the website ferniewriters.com/schedule-glance.
