Ebtu's Cozy Blanket by Jens Mende

Ebtu’s journey continues on the path of becoming an energy efficient home. As the unfolding takes place installation of current technologies are instrumental in moving Ebtu from being an excessive user of BTUs to an efficient user of BTUs. One of the most important aspects of moving towards energy efficiency is replacing the furnace. Ebtu’s new furnace is a 95% efficient, high efficiency furnace.
Sealing off all duct work.
New plumbing has also been installed and is nearing completion. Proper insulation at this stage of the renovation is always a bit tricky; fortunately for us Captain Insulation was near and could assist with a quick application of spray foam insulation behind the new tub and shower units. This will provide an excellent seal spray foam insulation behind the shower unit. Thanks Captain.
The first line of defense - an air barrier.
Insulation will be "blown" into the wall cavity and rigid insulation over top will reduce heat loss through the wood structure. Rigid foam insulation over the wood framing adding R-10 of insulation and new triple glazed windows are being installed. South facing windows will also receive an extra coating of “solar stop” to help diffuse extra heat coming in through the windows and have less heat loss in the winter.
A lot of work has taken place since last month; none of this journey would be possible without the dedication and efforts of the excellent team of sub-contractors and suppliers supporting Ebtu’s transformation. Thank you to everyone involved in making Ebtu’s journey a reality as he moves from being an inefficient user of BTUs to an efficient user of BTUs and reducing his carbon footprint. Also thank you to the Fernie Fix for supporting the project.
One of Ebtu’s brothers only a few blocks away has had an eco-retro fit complete and has now eliminated six tonnes of carbon per year to the atmosphere. Each home can make a difference to the amount of greenhouse gas emissions produced per year; collectively Ebtu’s brothers and sisters can make an impact. Remember to log onto the BC Live Smart program to see how you can be eligible for government rebates when you move towards energy efficient retro –fits. See you next time and thanks for checking in on Ebtu’s progress.
