Fernie Writers’ Conference, www.ferniewriters.com
The Fernie Writers’ Conference completed its sixth turn as the must-do event for writers.
An acoustic performance by Helen Austin and her daughter Daisy Squires highlighted an intimate night of student readings at Clawhammer Letterpress. The evening was as close to perfection as one could get. The following evening, a widespread power outage made for a warm keynote address at Knox United Church. Calgary author Aritha van Herk lights up any room she enters, and her talk at Knox United Church inspired people to see the stories in everything around them.
Plans for FWC 2013 (July 14 – 20) have begun, and organizers are working on bringing in some of Canada’s literary giants. Stay tuned for some big announcements later this fall.
