Abstract Photography

We were on a sea kayaking trip in the Broughton Archipelago and found ourselves in the little town of Echo Bay. I had been shooting some of the moored boats sitting in the harbour when I noticed how the colour of one of the ship's rudder and water was mixing. Since the story was the colour for me, I decided to crop the frame in such a way as to only keep a bit of the boat for context.

Burning Blur
One of my favorite parts of photography is experimenting with different techniques to get that super unique image. Panning is a technique photographers use in action photography that blurs the image to give it a sense of motion or speed. I decided to try it with landscapes, and I have to say I am stoked with the way this project turned out. This image is of the sun setting against the Rocky Mountain foothills in southern Alberta.

Tse' bighanilini (the place where the water runs through the rocks) is one of the most spectacular slot canyons in North America. Considered sacred ground by the LeChee Navajo, this canyon is accessible only by native guides who stop and give prayers of thanks to Mother Nature "the provider" before entering. Milleniums of flashfloods carved the Navajo sandstone down 120 feet; however, it is only a few feet wide at the canyon bottom. Beams of light passing through the narrow surface crack create dramatic shadows, curves and colors on the velvety walls.
