2nd Annual Fernie Junior Tennis Tournament Results
With 22 kids entering the 2nd Annual Junior Tennis Tournament, Fernie managed to have an awesome tournament day, playing through wind and rain with excellent standard of play from all juniors. Organizers Charlotte Willis and Jez Wheeler of Fernie Tennis Coaches would like to thank all parents for taking the time to not only sit through the wind and rain in support, but also for helping with umpiring. Also, a big thank to this year's sponsors: East Kootaney Credit Union, Gear Hub, Blackstone Lodge, Tennis BC, Fernie Tennis Coaching, Fernie Tennis Club and Freshies.
Winner of the most improved, best sportsmanship and played the most tennis this year was Jamie Dennis, who won an outward bound directors camping chair donated by the Gear Hub.

Tennis is growing fast in Fernie, thanks to the support of Tennis BC, Fernie Tennis Coaching and its association with Fernie Tennis Club over 700 children have been taught in Fernie in the last year. Funding and equipment has been awarded by Tennis BC for the next two years to help this progress, with a goal to have all schools involved in sustainable tennis programs throughout the year. The target for the next few years is to acquire support and the funding to develop an indoor facility in Fernie, that can be used as multi sports arena offering tennis, soccer and basketball facilities. The Fernie community is playing its part in Canada's tennis boom.
Junior Tennis Night is free to members at James White Park Tuesday 4-6pm until 23rd October, after which is will move into the Community Centre on Thursdays from 5.30-7.30pm attendance permitting.
